A Healing Mineral Soak

Today my customer and friend Patricia told me she soaked in the warm mineral soothing water of Glenwood Springs. Then she slathered with her Angelpaste afterward, and her skin was miraculous healed. Then she asked me something I couldn’t stop thinking about: could I help other people get that same glow without making the trip to Colorado?

So I dug into what makes those springs so special. The water at Glenwood rises from deep underground at around 120°F and carries a rich mix of minerals. It’s mostly salt, with about 1,100 parts per million of sulfate and just a faint trace of sulfur, which is why it smells so mild. The good news is you can recreate a lot of that experience at home with a few simple ingredients.

What to add to a standard tub (about 40 gallons)

•  1½ to 2 cups Epsom salt for magnesium and sulfate. That’s roughly the amount it takes to match Glenwood’s sulfate level.

•  1 cup pink Himalayan salt for that salty, trace-mineral feel. Glenwood’s water is far saltier than this, but a cup gives you a taste of it without drying out your skin.

•  ½ cup baking soda to soften the water and leave skin feeling silky.

•  1 cup colloidal oatmeal to soothe dry, itchy skin.

•  1 tablespoon mustard powder for a warming soak, an old bathhouse tradition that echoes the sulfur springs without the smell.

How to draw your bath

Fill the tub with warm water and stir in your additives until they dissolve. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes, sip some water, and take your time. Afterward, pat your skin dry and smooth on Angelpaste while it’s still soft and damp, so it holds onto all that moisture.

Rest is a gift, and taking care of your body is a way of honoring it. God is so good!

NOTE: If your skin is sensitive, start with smaller amounts and leave out the mustard powder until you know how your skin responds. If you’re pregnant, recovering from treatment, or have a health condition, check with your doctor before trying a new soak.
